Administration / Journeying
Your administration session is the heart of your psilocybin therapy, where you'll experience the medicine's therapeutic effects in a safe, supported environment designed to facilitate healing, insight, and transformation.
The Journey: A Full Day of Presence and Care
Journey day at The Clearing is unlike anything you will find at most psilocybin healing centers. It is not a clinical appointment. It is not a scheduled block of hours with a timer running in the background. It is a full day — unhurried, ceremonially held, and completely devoted to you.
What to Expect on “Journey Day”
The administration session honors the therapeutic potential of psilocybin by providing optimal conditions for healing, ensuring safety through professional monitoring, and creating space for the profound therapeutic work the medicine facilitates.

Preparation is crucial for a meaningful experience.
In the weeks leading up to your session, we'll work together to set clear intentions, discuss any anxieties, and establish a framework for integration.
You'll receive some dietary guidelines to follow 24-48 hours beforehand, including avoiding alcohol and certain medications.
We recommend getting adequate sleep, staying hydrated, and arriving in a calm, open mindset.
Wear comfortable clothing and consider bringing any meaningful objects that provide comfort, though these should be discussed with your facilitator beforehand.
-
Your journey day will typically last 6-8 hours (based on dosage) and takes place in a comfortable, controlled therapeutic environment.
You'll begin with a brief check-in to review your intentions, get comfortable in the space, and address any important questions you may have at that time. We honor the medicinal heritage with ritual and ceremony while you settle in for the day.
After consuming your mushrooms, you'll prepare for the journey they will take you on by settling in, reviewing supportive information, journaling, doing art… whatever you need to help you. This time usually includes introspective exploration, often with eyeshades, listening to carefully curated music, as well as opportunities for talking things out with your facilitators if that is your jam!
Our job as facilitators on this day is to support you however we can so you feel ready (your “set” / mindset), a comfortable environment (the “setting”), and love, warmth, presence and compassion.
If this is your first time on a journey, you will soon see these factors are essential for helping you to feel physically grounded while the mushrooms take you… well… wherever they want to take you :)

Following the Colorado regulated model, owners of healing centers can only source medicinal mushrooms from licensed cultivators, who must abide by their own version of Colorado-state rules and regulations. Our medicine comes from very experienced growers and cultivators who care about their mushrooms! Every batch that ends up in a healing center has also been tested at licensed testing facilities who operate independently.
In the room on journey day, we prepare your medicine according to your preferences and what we have established together during preparation sessions. We favor lemon and orange tekking, a traditional method of preparation that aligns with both ancestral practice and the protocols used in leading clinical research. This is not incidental. How the medicine is prepared is part of the ceremony.
Depending on your dose, strain, and individual physiology, you can expect the journey itself to last approximately 6 to 8 hours, with the full day running 8 to 10 hours from arrival to departure.

Yes, absolutely.
Depending on your needs and preferences, your journey may be supported by one or two facilitators. For clients working with complex trauma, high emotional intensity, or who simply prefer additional support, having a co-facilitator present adds another layer of attunement and safety. This is discussed and decided together during preparation.
Our co-facilitators bring exceptional depth to this work, many with 5 to 20 years of experiential practice, licenses in mental health, and a profound personal relationship with the medicine and its ancestral lineage.
We take this stance as your facilitators: the mushrooms are the teacher, and you have an inner healing intelligence that knows what it’s doing. You don’t have to think about healing a paper cut, for instance, your body just knows how to do that. When you are journeying, the mushrooms very much help “switch on” your inner healing intelligence, meaning much of our work is to recognize that process, honor it as your truth, and simply get out of the way. That being stated, we are also trained to provide guidance, reassurance, and intervention if absolutely needed - something you don’t have to worry about.
We maintain a balance between supportive presence and allowing space for your inner exploration. You're never alone, and help is always immediately available.

We are completely present with you for every moment of your journey. We are not checking phones. We are not distracted. We are attuned to your breath, your movement, your expressions, your needs.
To an outside observer, it might look as though we are simply sitting or meditating nearby while you rest with eye shades. What is actually happening is far more active. We are tracking your experience moment to moment, holding the space steady, and responding to whatever arises — whether that is quiet companionship, a grounding hand on the shoulder, standing as a guardian while you move through the room, supporting you through a difficult passage, reading tarot cards together, making art, or simply bearing witness as something profound unfolds.
Our approach draws on IFS (Internal Family Systems), ACT, mindfulness-based practices, and Jungian depth psychology. But on journey day, the framework recedes. What remains is presence, attunement, and care.
People report a wide range of experiences that tend to be emotionally enriching, spiritually profound, occasionally challenging, and often all of these seemingly at once. Our role is to ensure that you have the support to move through all of it, and that nothing, including time, feels rushed.
-
Challenging experiences, sometimes called "difficult passages," can be part of the therapeutic process and often lead to significant breakthroughs when properly supported.
Your facilitators are specifically trained in navigating these moments and will provide grounding techniques, reassurance, and skilled guidance to help you work through difficult material safely.
We view challenges as opportunities for healing rather than problems to be avoided.
The controlled, therapeutic setting ensures you have professional support to process whatever arises.

The acute effects typically last 4-6 hours, sometimes a bit longer with higher doses and “deeper journey's”, with the most intense period usually occurring 2-4 hours after eating your mushrooms.
You'll remain at our facility until the primary effects have substantially diminished and you feel grounded and stable at the end of your journey. This is not only best practice, but also state law.
Most clients are ready to leave 6-8 hours after their session begins, though this can vary.
You'll need to arrange transportation home, as you cannot drive for the remainder of the day.
We do not rush this day at all. This is a day for and about you, and we trust the mushrooms know what they are doing when you have them active within you. Its our job to ensure you feel safe and stable before your departure.

Your journey takes place in a comfortable, home-like therapeutic space designed to feel safe and nurturing.
The room features comfortable furniture, soft lighting, and minimal distractions, although it isn’t occurring in a vacuum by any means.
We provide high-quality audio equipment for music, cozy blankets, and eyeshades to support introspective exploration.
The environment is carefully controlled for temperature, lighting, and sound to optimize your comfort and sense of security throughout the experience.
We also love using chimes, musical instruments that give natural and soft sounds, and music, which the mushrooms tend to love as well :)

Many clients report feeling more open, reflective, and emotionally sensitive for several days following their journey.
Some experiences increase clarity, shifts in perspective, or enhanced emotional processing.
It's common to feel tired the day after your session, so we recommend taking time off work and avoiding major decisions for 24-48 hours.
The real therapeutic work often begins in the integration phase, where we'll help you process insights and apply them to your daily life through follow-up therapy sessions.

Bring comfortable, loose-fitting clothes, any prescribed medications you need to continue taking, and perhaps a meaningful object for reflection and/or comfort. We will talk about this during the preparation sessions.
Avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours beforehand, and try to cut down on recreational drugs for at least a week prior to your journey day. During the preparation session, we may provide some loose dietary guidelines as well. For example, nausea is common after eating mushrooms, so bringing some ginger chews can be a great thing!
In the journey room, we will ask you to focus on you that day, meaning we may leave your electronic devices or anything that might create anxiety outside the room. We will keep your things safe that day, and of course will return them to you when you leave for the evening.
Most importantly, bring an open mind and willingness to engage with whatever the experience offers.

A couples session creates a unique shared therapeutic experience where both partners journey simultaneously in the same space with specialized facilitator support.
During our preparation sessions, we will talk about our two journey rooms and ask what your preferences are for your journey day. During your journeys, though, things can shift and your preferences (or, rather, the preferences of your mushrooms!) can change, and you may want to be alone for awhile. This is one reason our space and our method is great for couples - we will always have two facilitators during couples’ journeys, and we can easily move from one journey room to another during the day.
Regardless of where the both of you journey, the experience often deepens intimacy and understanding between partners, as you may share insights, provide mutual support during challenging moments, or simply hold space for each other's process.
Our couples-trained therapists facilitate communication when appropriate and help navigate the dynamics of shared vulnerability.
Many couples report feeling more connected and emotionally available to each other following their shared journey, though each person's individual experience remains unique and respected.
-
Small group journey days create a supportive community atmosphere where participants can draw strength from shared experience while maintaining individual therapeutic focus.
Each person has their own dedicated space within a larger room, and licensed facilitators provide supervision and support. It is common to have 2 licensed facilitators "sitting for” the small group, although there may be need for 3 licensed facilitators in some circumstances.
The group energy often enhances feelings of connection and reduces anxiety, as participants realize they're not alone in their healing process. While much of the experience remains internal and individual, there are often powerful moments of collective support, shared insights during integration periods, and a sense of witnessing each other's courage in facing difficult material.
Group sessions can be particularly meaningful for those working through similar challenges or those who find strength in community healing, but it is also common that each person has their own reasons for being there. The space we create together can hold all of it!
-
As your journey naturally comes to a close, we move gently into the closing of the day together. There is no rush to leave. We eat together, we debrief lightly if that feels right, and we ensure you feel grounded, nourished, and safe before you go. Your safe transport plan, arranged during preparation, takes care of getting you home safely.
Formal integration begins the very next day.
