The OPEN & OHSU Psilocybin Study

The Clearing is participating in OHSU’s OPEN study on the safety and outcomes of psychedelic services. Adults 21+ can take part through brief online surveys.

Study Overview

As psychedelic services become more available in Colorado and beyond, there’s still a lot to learn about how they affect people’s lives over time: what helps, what’s hard, and what keeps people safe.

The Clearing is participating in the OPEN study, led by researchers at Oregon Health & Science University. The study follows people receiving supported psychedelic services and asks how they’re doing before their session and over the following year. Your answers become part of a growing body of research that can guide safer, better care for everyone who comes after you.

Participation is entirely optional, and it doesn’t change the care you receive at The Clearing.

OPEN is an observational research study, which means it doesn’t change or direct your psilocybin services in any way. Researchers simply ask participants to complete surveys about mood, substance use, and overall health, before their session and at several points afterward. The goal is to better understand the safety and outcomes of psychedelic services as they’re actually delivered in the real world.

The study is led by Todd Korthuis, MD, at OHSU and is approved by OHSU’s Institutional Review Board (IRB #26147).

What is this study about?

1

Anyone 21 or older who is planning to receive supported psychedelic services, including psilocybin services at The Clearing, is welcome to take part.

There’s no direct benefit to you from participating. What you’ll be doing is contributing to research on psychedelic safety and outcomes, helping shape the future of evidence-based services, and strengthening the broader community’s understanding of psychedelics.
