Our Approach to Facilitator Privacy
At The Clearing, we honor the privacy and protection of our facilitators with the same care and intentionality we extend to our participants. Given the evolving landscape of natural medicine regulations in Colorado, many of our exceptional facilitators are currently navigating the transition from “underground” therapeutic practices to state-licensed clinical facilitator roles. To protect their professional journey and personal safety during this regulatory transition, we maintain confidentiality around facilitator identities until you engage with us directly.
This thoughtful approach allows us to work with some of the most experienced and skilled practitioners in the field—individuals who have dedicated years to therapeutic psychedelic work and are now bringing their expertise into Colorado's regulated framework.

It is very important to consider who you will be with during your psychedelic journey. Choosing someone to hold your psychedelic journey is about heart, safety, and skill.
Let’s begin with some linguistic distinctions. In the field of psychedelic assisted therapy, facilitators are typically licensed mental health professionals—psychiatrists, psychologists, LCSWs, LPCs—who bring structure, clinical oversight, and integration skills to your therapy. These people are also referred to as psychedelic therapists. Others may be guides, who basically act as facilitators but they may lack the legal license to do this therapeutic work within a regulated system. Both facilitators and guides work to offer intention-setting support in a safe, ceremonial space.
Keep in mind that even though psilocybin assisted therapy is state-legal in both Oregon and Colorado, it remains federally illegal as the therapy involves used of a controlled substance. If you opt to undergo this therapy within the regulated system here in Colorado, we recommend finding licensed facilitators with whom to work. We recommend this because in order to become licensed as a facilitator or natural medicine in Colorado, one needs to have received formal training, clinical supervision, and practicum experiences with psilocybin from a state approved educational program held to very rigorous standards. Many facilitators, in particular “clinical facilitators” must leverage their license as a mental health provider (e.g., psychologist, psychiatrist, clinical counselor), which holds them to very high standards of care. Moreover, licensed facilitators are formally trained and experienced in trauma-informed care practices, harm reduction philosophy, cross-cultural competencies, integration and crisis support, and somatic or integration practices.
Beyond their credentials, look for a facilitators who are both experienced/trained and compassionate. It is totally OK to ask your facilitators about their experience—not just what courses they’ve taken, but how many journeys they've supported for people. Do your best to “feel into” how it is to be in their presence.
Some of the questions we common receive (and enjoy addressing!) include:
“What’s your professional background and licensing?”
“What specific psychedelic training have you done, and under whose supervision?”
“How many psychedelic sessions have you guided, with which substances?”
“How do you support preparation and post-session integration?”
“What’s your approach to safety, trauma, or difficult emotional material?”
A good guide offers your full care—through preparation, the journey session, and integration afterward. They’re calm, grounded, nonjudgmental, and they help to bring you back home to yourself whenever you need them to.
Remember that trust isn’t built in a day. Let your intuition speak outloud for you! If you do a ‘vibe check’ and you feel safe with your facilitator, that could go a long way with this type of treatment approach. If you feel safe with your facilitator(s), it become easier to let them foster the space where your healing can unfold, slowly, warmly, and meaningfully.
